1. Overview of the institution 

Founded in 1877, University of  Manitoba is western Canada’s first university. Located in Winnipeg, it is a research-intensive post-secondary educational institution with excellence that stems back 139 years. The university offers more than 90 degrees, more than 60 at the undergraduate level. Most academic units offer graduate studies programs leading to master’s or doctoral degrees.

Our energetic university community is comprised of close to 30,000 students, 8,700 faculty and staff, and 190,000 alumni. Nearly 13 per cent of our current students are international, representing close to 104 countries. The University of Manitoba is a coeducational, nondenominational, government-supported institution. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.

2. Location and facilities 

The University of Manitoba has three main locations: the Bannatyne Campus, the Fort Garry Campus and the William Norrie Centre. Located at the heart of the Fort Garry Campus, the Duckworth Quadrangle is one of the great places to meet, socialize and enjoy campus life.
