1. Overview of the institution
Auckland University of Technology (AUT), is the third largest university and one of the newest in New Zealand. Its roots go back to 1895 when it use to be a technical school. Over the years it has become a globally competitive institution with a world class research culture.
The university is also known for its student welfare initiatives. The GirlTech programme is to encourage female students to enter streams of Science and Technology. The Perfect Prefect’s Programme is a one day programme held where students from the different schools come together to discuss pros and cons, achievements of their respective schools with one another.
2. Location and facilities
Located in Auckland, the university has three vibrant campuses. Auckland (City) Manukau (South Auckland) and North Shore (across the Auckland Harbour Bridge)
AUT’s Millennium Institute is located on the North shore. The institute is a sports training facility that does research as well as helps students and the community stay healthy as well as for the university’s athletes. The Athletic student advisor guides students to condition their body and mind in an effective way for top results.
The campuses also have student lounges and game rooms to help students unwind. The student centre has advisors for students of all nationalities to help them in their academics as well as to settle them into the university life.
